Job Description/ Positions

Direct support professional

The cornerstone role at ND is the Direct Support Professional (DSP), also known as "Direct Support Staff." These individuals collaborate closely with the clients on a daily basis. Under the client's guidance, they will aid in directing their services and supports according to the client's wishes, rather than the agency's. Every DSP must exhibit qualities that align with those of the individuals they support. All DSPs, and indeed any agency employee who may interact with clients, must pass a fingerprint clearance by both the California Department of Justice and the FBI, as well as a Department of Motor Vehicles check. Employees are not permitted to work independently with clients until the agency has received clearance. The agency will conduct a thorough screening of all employees for potential risks associated with supporting individuals with disabilities. This process will include, but is not limited to, reference checks from applications, previous employers, online information reviews, Megan’s Law database access, and other methods sanctioned by D.S.L.E. and the agency. Employees required to transport clients must have a valid driver's license with no felony traffic convictions. Within three months of employment, DSPs will undergo CPR/First Aid training and internal training as specified in this program design. §58643 Standards for Direct Service Staff: a.) Subject to Section 58620(c), the SLS vendor will assign direct service staff to deliver SLS to consumers. Such staff must possess the necessary skills, training, and or education.
